Leslie Fulwiler, Felon with Firearm, West Monroe LA, 2023

MONROE, La. – A quartet of criminals learned their fate in federal court this week, slapped with significant prison terms for a mix of drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession. The sentences, handed down by U.S. District Judge Terry A. Doughty, represent the latest crackdown in a region plagued by illicit activity. Details emerging from the courtroom paint a grim picture of repeat offenders and brazen disregard for the law.

Leslie Jason Fulwiler, 50, of West Monroe, Louisiana, received a 60-month sentence, followed by 3 years of supervised release, for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The ATF and West Monroe Police Department uncovered a scheme where Fulwiler pawned two guns in Minden, Louisiana, on January 28, 2021. One day later, he attempted to retrieve them, fully aware his felony convictions for methamphetamine possession and burglary barred him from owning weapons. The investigation revealed the firearms were stolen, adding another layer of criminality to his actions. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Mudrick prosecuted the case.

In a separate case, Dantrell Rayshon Marshall, 23, of Monroe, Louisiana, was sentenced to 46 months in prison, plus 3 years of supervised release, on firearms charges. A routine traffic stop on August 31, 2022, turned up more than just an expired temporary tag. Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s deputies detected a strong marijuana odor emanating from the vehicle, leading to a search that revealed 42 grams of suspected marijuana and a loaded Springfield Armory 9mm pistol. The ATF confirmed the weapon had crossed state lines. Marshall pleaded guilty November 21, 2022. The investigation was a joint effort by the FBI, ATF, and Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Tennille Gilreath leading the prosecution.

The heaviest sentence went to Keith Jerome Mosley, 50, of Edwards, Mississippi, who received 78 months in prison and 5 years of supervised release for conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with intent to distribute. A DEA investigation into drug trafficking in Tensas Parish, Louisiana, led to a traffic stop on September 8, 2020, where officers discovered over 50 grams of methamphetamine hidden in Mosley’s vehicle. He pleaded guilty on November 21, 2022. The DEA and Louisiana State Police collaborated on the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Leon H. Whitten handling the prosecution.

Rounding out the sentencings, Adrian Dion Coleman, 24, of Monroe, Louisiana, was handed a 36-month prison term, followed by 3 years of supervised release, after pleading guilty October 31, 2022, to possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a firearm during a drug crime. This stemmed from a January 18, 2021, traffic stop by Ouachita Parish officers. The details of that stop were not immediately available.

These cases underscore the ATF’s continued focus on dismantling criminal networks operating in Louisiana. While the sentences offer a temporary reprieve, the constant flow of drugs and illegal weapons into the state suggests a long road ahead for law enforcement. The Grimy Times will continue to monitor these developments and report on the ongoing battle against crime in the region.
