New Orleans, Louisiana – A grim federal crime charge sheet dropped today as KWAME FLEMING, 26, was indicted on multiple charges including murder through the use of a firearm, conspiracy to commit carjackings, and Hobbs Act robbery.
According to the U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite, FLEMING is accused of conspiring with others to distribute and possess marijuana, leading to the tragic murder of Jacquez Young in Gretna, Louisiana, on June 1, 2015.
FLEMING’s alleged criminal spree didn’t stop there. The indictment details four carjackings or attempted carjackings, including a failed attempt to steal a 2013 Ford F-250 and successful thefts of a Chevrolet Cruze and a GMC Yukon. He is charged separately for his participation in three of these incidents.
On June 4, 2015, the defendant is accused of committing a Hobbs Act robbery where he and his co-conspirators arranged to steal marijuana and synthetic marijuana through violence. The crime transpired in Mississippi but has jurisdiction in Louisiana.
The penalties for FLEMING’s charges are severe: life imprisonment for murder, up to 15 years for carjacking or attempted carjacking, a minimum of seven years for brandishing firearms during a violent crime, and up to 20 years for Hobbs Act robbery. The maximum sentence for conspiracy to distribute and possess marijuana is five years.
U.S. Attorney Polite emphasized that the charges are mere allegations, and FLEMING’s guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. He also commended the efforts of various law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation.
