Lewiston Man Sentenced for Interstate Robbery

Portland, Maine – In a shocking turn of events, Victor Lara Jr, 33, of Lewiston, Maine has been sentenced to 184 months in prison and five years of supervised release for his involvement in an interstate robbery conspiracy and using a firearm during a crime of violence.

According to court records and trial evidence, on the night of August 2, 2014, Lara and his associates broke into a residence on Garfield Road in Minot, Maine, armed with a crowbar and firearms. Their intentions were to steal drugs and money from the occupants, but their brutal actions took a dark turn.

The investigation revealed that Lara used a crowbar to repeatedly assault the occupants, and encouraged his associates to shoot them. Luckily, no one was killed, but the severity of the crime cannot be overstated.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Maine State Police, the Lewiston and Auburn Police, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Lara’s sentencing comes after a jury trial on September 12, 2016, where he was convicted of his crimes. Acting United States Attorney Richard W. Murphy announced the sentencing, which marks a significant victory for law enforcement in the state of Maine.

The sentence handed down to Lara is a harsh reminder of the consequences of such heinous crimes. As we continue to work towards a safer community, it’s essential to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.

The people of Maine can rest a little easier knowing that justice has been served in this case. As we move forward, we must remain vigilant in our pursuit of justice and continue to support our law enforcement agencies in their efforts to keep our communities safe.
