Romeo Swofford, Firearms Trafficking, Georgia 2022

ATLANTA – Romeo Swofford, also known as ‘Lil Richie,’ has been handed a 10-year, one-month sentence for his leadership in an international firearms trafficking ring that funneled over 160 guns through Atlanta dealers.

“Firearms trafficking is a serious crime that fuels violence,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan, emphasizing the role of straw purchases in perpetuating community violence.

Buchanan detailed how Swofford orchestrated the conspiracy with co-defendants Emmanuel Barden and Cemonte Wade, who骗取了亚特兰大地区的枪支经销商,实际上是为了将武器转手给罪犯和其他非法使用者。

“Swofford sought to profit from reselling these guns, obliterating serial numbers on many of them,” Buchanan said. “But his scheme was thwarted when nearly 20 of the guns were recovered in Canada, their serials restored by law enforcement.

The investigation culminated on March 9, 2022, with agents witnessing Swofford and Wade purchasing three Glock pistols before transferring them to Medford Layatte Daniels, Jr., who was already on probation for unrelated gun crimes.

U.S. District Judge Jean-Paul “J.P.” Boulee sentenced the defendants: Lil Richie to 10 years, one month; Daniels to nine years, three months; Barden to four years, nine months; and Wade to three years, one month, all followed by supervised release.
