Medicaid Scam Exposed: Lillie Vaughn and Vickie Deal Face Consequences
A shocking case of Medicaid fraud has come to light in St. Clair County, Illinois. Lillie Vaughn, a 56-year-old resident of Cahokia, and her personal assistant, Vickie Deal, have been sentenced for making false statements related to healthcare matters.
According to court documents, Vaughn and Deal were beneficiaries of the Illinois Medicaid Home Services program. However, they allegedly submitted false claims for services that were never provided. The scheme involved falsifying Home Services Time Sheets to receive payment for 48 hours of personal assistant services that Deal did not perform, as she was incarcerated during that time.
The investigation, led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG) and the Illinois State Police, Medicaid Fraud Control Bureau (MFCB), uncovered the deceitful activities of Vaughn and Deal. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Quinley.
Both Vaughn and Deal have admitted to their wrongdoing and have been sentenced accordingly. Vaughn, 56, was sentenced to three years of probation, a $100 special assessment, and ordered to pay restitution in the total amount of $3,094.88 to the State of Illinois and to the United States Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Vickie Deal, 46, also received a similar sentence, with three years of probation, a $100 special assessment, and ordered to pay restitution in the same amount as Vaughn. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of honesty and transparency in healthcare services.
The sentencing of Vaughn and Deal is a significant step in combating Medicare and Medicaid fraud. It highlights the dedication of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors in ensuring that those who abuse the system face consequences.
As the investigation continues, it is essential to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The public’s cooperation is crucial in preventing and prosecuting healthcare fraud.
