Arturo Limon III, Bank Robbery, Texas 2023

A brazen bank robbery in South Texas has landed a suspect in federal custody, announced U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Arturo Limon III, a 42-year-old Laredo resident, was arrested after attempting to purchase a firearm with cash allegedly stolen from the Falcon International Bank.

According to the criminal complaint filed April 29, Limon entered the Falcon International Bank on April 27, handing bank tellers an empty camouflage backpack and demanding they fill it with cash. The charges allege he said, ‘yes this is happening’ during the robbery, as he stole a large amount of cash from the teller’s drawer.

Limon allegedly exited the bank through the main lobby entrance and drove away in a blue Ford Mustang. Authorities responded, reviewed bank surveillance footage, and issued a ‘be on the lookout’ for an individual matching Limon’s description.

Just hours after the robbery, Limon allegedly entered the Arena Gun Club, where he attempted to purchase a firearm by handing the employee a large amount of cash. However, he left the club while employees conducted the mandatory background checks, alerting law enforcement to his suspicious behavior.

Authorities arrested Limon at his residence as he arrived driving a blue Mustang. A search of his vehicle revealed marked currency and a green camouflage backpack, according to the charges.

If convicted, Limon faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a possible $250,000 maximum fine. The FBI conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Makens prosecuting the case. A criminal complaint is a formal accusation of criminal conduct, not evidence. Limon is presumed innocent unless convicted through due process of law.
