Council Bluffs Woman Sentenced on Methamphetamine Charges

In a shocking case of methamphetamine distribution, Lisa Marie Barrett, age 46, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, has been sentenced to 60 months in prison and 5 years of supervised release. The sentencing took place on March 15, 2013, in U.S. District Court in Council Bluffs.

The charges against Barrett arose from a SouthWest Iowa Narcotics Task Force investigation, which revealed that she had made two sales of methamphetamine to an undercover operative. The distribution of 6.8 grams of 95% pure methamphetamine landed Barrett in hot water, as she pleaded guilty to the charges.

Barrett’s sentence includes the forfeiture of $1,061 and various drug-related paraphernalia seized at the time of her arrest. She is currently in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending designation of the Federal Bureau of Prisons facility to serve her federal sentence.

This case is part of a larger investigation conducted by the SouthWest Iowa Narcotics Task Force, which has led to the sentencing of several individuals, including David Fisher, Nicholas Franks, and Steven Etherington. Each of these individuals received significant prison time, with sentences ranging from 117 to 150 months.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa prosecuted the case, bringing the perpetrators to justice and serving as a warning to those involved in similar activities.
