ALBUQUERQUE – A Little Water native, Anthony Sandoval, has been swept into the grim headlines after being charged with assault resulting in serious bodily injury. The incident, which occurred on July 29, 2024, left a victim grievously injured.
The court documents paint a chilling picture, detailing how Sandoval, an enrolled member of the Navajo nation aged 40, assaulted the victim with a rifle. His actions did not go unpunished as he now faces serious charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, assault resulting in serious bodily injury, and using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
Sandoval is currently being held in third party custody while awaiting trial, which has yet to be scheduled. The stakes are high for Sandoval: if convicted on the current charges, he could face up to 10 years behind bars.
The investigation into this harrowing incident was a joint effort between the Gallup Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office and the Navajo Nation Police Department, along with support from the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Marshall is leading the prosecution against Sandoval.
