Rogersville Man Sentenced for Illegal Firearm
A Rogersville, Mo., man was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison without parole for illegally possessing a firearm.
Lloyd Eugene Mathis, 37, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge M. Douglas Harpool on Nov 13, 2024, for one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The firearm, an SCCY, model CPX-2, 9mm pistol, was loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition when deputies with the United States Marshals Service found it in Mathis’s waistband during a struggle on Feb 21, 2024.
According to court records, Mathis had prior felony convictions for automobile theft, burglary, arson, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault, attempting to elude a police officer, and driving under the influence of drugs.
Mathis attempted to flee on foot when the marshals identified themselves and approached him in the parking lot of a strip mall in Springfield, Mo. He physically resisted and ignored commands, reaching under his body during the struggle.
Under federal law, it is illegal for anyone who is convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition.
