Rogersville Man Sentenced for Illegal Firearm

A Rogersville, Mo., man was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison without parole for illegally possessing a firearm.

Lloyd Eugene Mathis, 37, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge M. Douglas Harpool on Nov 13, 2024, for one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The firearm, an SCCY, model CPX-2, 9mm pistol, was loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition when deputies with the United States Marshals Service found it in Mathis’s waistband during a struggle on Feb 21, 2024.

According to court records, Mathis had prior felony convictions for automobile theft, burglary, arson, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault, attempting to elude a police officer, and driving under the influence of drugs.

Mathis attempted to flee on foot when the marshals identified themselves and approached him in the parking lot of a strip mall in Springfield, Mo. He physically resisted and ignored commands, reaching under his body during the struggle.

Under federal law, it is illegal for anyone who is convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Wan and investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Greene County, Mo., Sheriff’s Office, and the United States Marshals Service.
