Loaded Gun in Felon’s Fanny Pack Lands Jddarrian Irons 46 Months

A convicted felon has been handed a stiff sentence for possessing a loaded firearm in his fanny pack.

Fort Myers, Florida – U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell has sentenced 33-year-old Jddarrian Christopher Irons to 46 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

Irons entered a guilty plea on February 28, 2024, after officers from the Fort Myers Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle he was riding in on October 5, 2023. During the stop, Irons initially gave a false name and date of birth to the officers.

When the officers searched the car, they found a loaded Smith and Wesson handgun in a fanny pack wedged between the front passenger seat and the door. Minutes earlier, Irons had been seen wearing the fanny pack in a nearby apartment complex.

As a multi-time convicted felon who had recently been released from a seven-year state prison sentence, Irons is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.

The case was investigated by the Fort Myers Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with Assistant United States Attorney Simon Eth handling the prosecution.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and the communities they serve.

According to the Department of Justice, the program’s core principles include fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.

The loaded firearm, a Smith and Wesson handgun, and the ammunition possessed during the offense have been forfeited by Irons as part of his sentence.
