A 44-year-old Lockport man has pleaded guilty to conspiring to sell large quantities of heroin in the area. Dion Cheatham admitted to distributing the deadly substance, along with fentanyl, to numerous customers between June 2013 and September 2015. The heroin was supplied to him by co-defendant Trent Hamilton.
According to court records, Cheatham would often visit Hamilton’s house at 184 High Street in Lockport to obtain the heroin and fentanyl. A phone call between the two men was intercepted by authorities on December 13, 2014, revealing a coded conversation about acquiring controlled substances for re-distribution. Video surveillance later captured Cheatham arriving at Hamilton’s residence.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Meghan A. Tokash and Michael P. Felicetta are handling the case, which carries a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison, a maximum of 40 years, and a $5,000,000 fine. Sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.
Charges are pending against co-defendant Trent Hamilton, who is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The investigation into the heroin sales ring was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Lockport Police Department, and the Niagara County Drug Task Force.
