Lockport Man Pleads Guilty to Cocaine Conspiracy

A Lockport man has pleaded guilty to his role in a cocaine conspiracy that spanned over a year. Alfonzo Maye, 41, a/k/a ‘Fonzo,’ admitted to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute and distribute cocaine in the Lockport area.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Catherine Baumgarten, who handled the case, Maye distributed cocaine and cocaine base in the Lockport area from June 2009 through August 2010, which was supplied to him by co-defendant Eric Williams. Maye’s actions were part of a larger investigation that resulted in the conviction of 22 defendants.

The investigation was a joint effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Niagara County Drug Task Force. Special Agent in Charge Brian R. Crowell of the DEA, Special Agent in Charge Brian P. Boetig of the FBI, and Sheriff James Votour of the Niagara County Drug Task Force all played key roles in the investigation.

Maye faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, a $1,000,000 fine, or both. His plea is the latest development in a case that has seen numerous defendants convicted of various drug-related charges.

The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in Western New York. As the region continues to grapple with the effects of the opioid epidemic, law enforcement agencies remain committed to bringing those responsible to justice.

Maye is expected to be sentenced at a later date. In the meantime, he will remain in custody pending the outcome of his case.
