Lockwood Sentenced to Five Years for Cocaine Conspiracy
BUFFALO, N.Y. – In a major blow to organized crime in Western New York, Dale Lockwood, 61, of Buffalo, has been sentenced to five years in prison for his role in a large-scale cocaine conspiracy.
Lockwood, a member of the notorious Afro-Dogs Motorcycle Club, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Richard J. Arcara after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas S. Duszkiewicz, the investigation into Lockwood and his co-conspirators was a long and complex one, involving agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Buffalo Police Department, the Town of Tonawanda Police Department, the Lockport Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
As part of the investigation, agents intercepted Lockwood and others engaging in narcotics-related conversations through a court-ordered wiretap. On March 3, 2011, agents and officers discovered over $71,000 in US currency, eight firearms, ammunition, and drug scales at Lockwood’s home at 567 Lasalle Avenue.
In total, the Afro-Dogs investigation has resulted in the indictment of 12 defendants, including Lockwood, and the seizure of over 1,100 grams of cocaine or cocaine base. Eleven other firearms were also recovered during the investigation.
Lockwood and five others charged in the case went to trial in April 2013, but the jury was unable to reach a verdict as to Lockwood. He later pleaded guilty to the narcotics charges, leading to his five-year sentence. In addition to his prison term, Lockwood must also forfeit $50,000 and any interest he may have in the Afro-Dogs Clubhouse at 1093/1095 Genesee Street.
The conviction marks a significant victory for law enforcement in Western New York, where organized crime groups like the Afro-Dogs have long been a thorn in the side of authorities. To date, nine defendants have been convicted in connection with the Afro-Dogs investigation.
Lockwood’s sentence is a clear message to those involved in organized crime that the law will not be lenient. The investigation into the Afro-Dogs is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
