Logan Sea Pallister, Bomb Threat, Helena MT, 2024

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Logan Sea Pallister, 25, of Helena, admitted today to a terrifying stockpile of illegal weaponry, including homemade bombs and a silencer, stemming from a disturbing plot to attack a Helena Public Schools building. The revelation comes after a chilling investigation that uncovered Pallister’s alleged plans for a Columbine-style massacre.

Pallister pleaded guilty to possession of unregistered destructive devices and possession of an unregistered silencer. He now faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and 3 years of supervised release on each charge – a potential two-decade sentence if the court imposes the maximum. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris has set sentencing for May 22, and Pallister will remain detained until then.

Court documents paint a grim picture of Pallister’s intentions. Back in May 2022, Helena Police Department received a tip from an individual who claimed Pallister possessed multiple bombs, a cache of firearms, and had openly discussed attacking a local high school. The informant revealed Pallister specifically referenced a desire to replicate the Columbine High School shooting, intending to use pipe bombs alongside firearms. He allegedly showed off his arsenal, including firearms and ammunition stored in his car, and had even purchased a black trench coat and a duffle bag mirroring those used by the Columbine shooters.

The informant further alleged Pallister demonstrated a small propane canister with a fuse, claiming it was a homemade bomb, and threatened the individual with violence if they revealed its existence. This prompted the crucial report to law enforcement. On May 31, 2022, officers apprehended Pallister walking toward his car, clad in a black trench coat and carrying a bag. A search revealed eight firearms concealed on his person.

A subsequent search of Pallister’s car and residence yielded a staggering amount of weaponry: nine more firearms, countless rounds of ammunition, loaded magazines, a modified Fram oil filter functioning as a silencer, and four suspected homemade pipe bombs. Inside his home, authorities found additional firearms, ammunition, firearm components, money order documents, receipts for chemicals and explosive precursors, and a homemade flash powder mixture. ATF experts confirmed the pipe bombs contained explosive mixtures capable of detonation, classifying them as destructive devices.

The silencer, identified as the modified oil filter, had been used with firearms and was designed to suppress sound, violating federal firearms laws. All devices were unregistered, making their possession a federal offense. U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich’s office is prosecuting the case, ensuring Pallister faces the full weight of the law for his dangerous and premeditated actions. The images of the recovered pipe bombs serve as a stark reminder of the potential for tragedy averted.
