TYLER, Texas – The Eastern District of Texas has meted out justice to Jason Ray Ragan, a 26-year-old Longview native, who has been sentenced to federal prison for methamphetamine distribution. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Leonard E. Davis, is a stark reminder of the fight against illegal drugs in our community.
Ragan, found guilty on February 6, 2013, admitted to possessing with intent to distribute a substantial amount of the dangerous drug. On August 2, 2012, authorities discovered approximately 8 grams of methamphetamine on Ragan. His criminal activities led to a federal indictment, returned on September 12, 2012, charging him alongside Jason Clinton Squires with serious federal drug crimes.
While Ragan has been sentenced, his co-defendant, Squires, still awaits his fate. Squires pleaded guilty on April 16, 2013, to conspiracy to manufacture, distribute, and possess methamphetamine with intent to distribute. The case against these individuals has been a collaboration between the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Texas Department of Public Safety, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Ann Cozby leading the prosecution.
U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today’s sentence, emphasizing the severity of drug trafficking in our region. Ragan’s conviction is a testament to the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies committed to keeping our streets safe and drug-free.
This sentencing serves as a stark warning to those who seek to profit from the illegal drug trade. The Department of Justice will continue its aggressive stance against such activities, ensuring that justice is served for all victims of drug-related crimes.
As the justice system delivers its verdict on Ragan and his co-defendant, it underscores the importance of community vigilance in the ongoing battle against methamphetamine distribution. The public’s support for law enforcement efforts in this fight against drug trafficking is crucial.
