Lorris, South Carolina – United States Attorney Beth Drake announced yesterday that Norad Arcane McCullough, 24, from Loris, has entered a guilty plea in federal court for possession with intent to distribute heroin and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Mccullough was arraigned on Monday before United States District Judge R. Bryan Harwell in Florence. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years for the drug charge and a mandatory minimum of five years plus life in prison for the firearms offense, according to the DOJ USAO.
The evidence at the plea hearing revealed that on October 21, 2016, a Conway car dealership discovered a backpack containing a firearm and what appeared to be heroin in a vehicle they had repossessed. When McCullough called to claim the backpack, he was promptly arrested. He confessed ownership of the drugs and firearm and admitted to distributing heroin.
McCullough informed law enforcement that he had been selling illegal drugs with a firearm, which is subject to enhanced penalties under Title 18, United States Code, Section 924(c).
The investigation was led by the Horry County Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Buddy Bethea of the Florence office is handling the case.
McCullough’s sentence will be determined after Judge Harwell reviews the presentence report prepared by the U.S. Probation Office.
