Grimy Times Exclusive: A grim end to a violent saga as Robert Da’Quan Johnson, 21, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, faces a federal prison term of 27 months for illegal firearm possession.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Columbia announced the sentence handed down by Judge Mary Geiger Lewis, who sentenced Johnson at the high end of the advisory guidelines, to be followed by three years of supervised release.
Evidence at the court hearing revealed that on September 7, 2015, an officer from the Rock Hill Police Department clocked Johnson’s vehicle doing 70 mph in a 50 mph zone. Stopping both vehicles, they discovered Johnson with a Rohm .22 caliber firearm and ammunition. Johnson, a known gang member, was under parole for a previous felony conviction, making him prohibited from possessing firearms.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stacey D. Haynes of the Columbia office prosecuted the case, which was part of Project CeaseFire, an initiative aimed at aggressively prosecuting firearm cases. The investigation was conducted by both ATF and the Rock Hill Police Department.
This sentencing underscores the ongoing efforts by federal, state, and local authorities to crack down on gun violence in South Carolina. Johnson’s conviction serves as a stark reminder of the consequences for those who flout firearms laws.
