Louis Melvin Williamson, Meth Conspiracy, Missouri 2022

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A brazen methamphetamine conspiracy has come to an end, with a 15-year sentence handed down to one of its key players. Louis Melvin Williamson, 51, of Independence, Mo., was sentenced in federal court last week for his role in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

The charges against Williamson stem from a years-long investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, which uncovered a complex web of methamphetamine trafficking that spanned from August 11 to October 14, 2020. According to court documents, Williamson sold bulk quantities of methamphetamine to other dealers, including his co-defendant Kurt Thomas Kingsley, 40, of Independence, Mo., who in turn sold to Kenneth James Paulson, 52, of Blue Springs, Mo.

Agents from the DEA made controlled purchases of methamphetamine from Paulson at his home and at a movie theater parking lot in Grain Valley, Mo. On October 13, 2020, DEA agents stopped Paulson’s car in Blue Springs while he was on his way to another undercover controlled purchase. Agents found 145 grams of 99 percent pure methamphetamine in his car, along with a Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun and a Smith & Wesson .38-caliber revolver in his garage.

On October 14, 2020, Kingsley arrived at Paulson’s residence for an arranged drug sale. DEA agents found a black backpack on the passenger’s seat of Kingsley’s Ford F-150 that contained 46.7 grams of pure methamphetamine.

Williamson’s sentence of 15 years in federal prison without parole was handed down by U.S. District Judge Greg Kays. The court also ordered Williamson’s sentence to be served consecutively to any sentence imposed in a separate case in Clay County, Mo. Co-defendant Kurt Thomas Kingsley, 40, of Independence, was sentenced on April 6, 2023, to seven years in federal prison without parole after pleading guilty to his role in the drug-trafficking conspiracy and to one count of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.

Co-defendant Kenneth James Paulson, 52, of Blue Springs, Mo., pleaded guilty on November 16, 2022, to his role in the drug-trafficking conspiracy and awaits sentencing. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Gibson.

With the sentencing of Williamson, the DEA has brought another major player in the methamphetamine conspiracy to justice. The agency’s efforts to dismantle the complex web of methamphetamine trafficking will continue, with the goal of making Missouri’s streets safer for its citizens.
