ST. LOUIS – U.S. District Judge Rodney W. Sippel handed down a stiff sentence to Antoine Demetrius Meeks, a 31-year-old St. Louis man, on Thursday for his role in a major narcotics bust.
Meeks was caught with 208 grams of methamphetamine and 26 grams of fentanyl during a traffic stop on August 19, 2022, by the O’Fallon Police. The arrest occurred while Meeks was on federal supervised release, having previously been convicted in a 2015 case for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The O’Fallon Police Department, the St. Ann Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) all contributed to the investigation that led to Meeks’ arrest and subsequent conviction.
Meeks pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in St. Louis in December to possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. His actions were a clear threat to public safety, and the sentence handed down by Judge Sippel reflects the severity of the crime.
The exact charges levied against Meeks were possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. This latest conviction serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against narcotics trafficking in the region.
Meeks’ case serves as a prime example of the DEA’s commitment to dismantling organized crime syndicates and bringing those responsible to justice. The DEA, along with its law enforcement partners, will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle these networks.
In addition to his prison sentence, Meeks’ actions have likely led to a lifetime of consequences, including the loss of his freedom and the impact on his loved ones. His case serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of narcotics trafficking and the importance of prioritizing public safety.
