Jonathan Gonzalez, Federal Drug and Gun Conspiracy, Louisiana 2024

New Orleans, Louisiana – A grim chapter in the city’s drug war concluded as Jonathan Gonzalez (“Gonzalez”), Anthony Roman (“Roman”), and Kevin Tyler (“Tyler”) were sentenced on May 14, 2024, for their roles in a sprawling federal drug and gun conspiracy. Gonzalez, aged 25, received a sentence of 104 months imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, and a $500 special assessment fee. His convictions included conspiracy to distribute marijuana and tapentadol, possession of stolen property, and firearms violations.

Anthony Roman was handed a 90-month prison term with three years of supervised release and a $500 special assessment for his involvement in the same drug ring. He also faced charges related to firearms and stolen vehicles. Tyler, 25, was sentenced to 120 months imprisonment, four years of supervised release, and a $200 special assessment for intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine.

The trio’s downfall began on January 29, 2023, when Roman was observed driving a stolen Infinity QX80. The FBI subsequently executed search warrants at two of Roman’s residences, uncovering drugs and firearms. Gonzalez fled when police attempted a stop, but was soon caught with drugs and weaponry.

Gonzalez’s mother’s residence yielded more illegal items, including drugs intended for sale. Tyler was nabbed after discussing drug sales on DEA wiretaps, leading to the recovery of drugs and weapons at his residence.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. The program’s success has been bolstered by a strategic approach that fosters trust and collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.

The sentences handed down are a testament to the ongoing commitment to make New Orleans, and other neighborhoods across the country, safer for everyone.
