Louisville, KY – The grim streets of Louisville were once again illuminated by justice as a federal grand jury returned an indictment against Joseph Edward Starling, 53, charging him with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Starling’s dark history includes a long rap sheet that dates back to his teenage years. On February 8, 2022, authorities caught Starling red-handed with a Taurus, Model Raging Judge Magnum, 45/410 caliber revolver, despite being a convicted felon.
This is not the first time Starling has faced the music for firearms-related offenses. His conviction list reads like a horror story of criminal behavior, starting with burglary and theft by unlawful taking in 1989 and culminating in manslaughter II and kidnapping charges in 2018.
The U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett, Special Agent R. Shawn Morrow of the ATF, and Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel of the Louisville Metro Police Department stood united to announce this latest legal challenge against Starling’s criminal legacy.
Should Starling be found guilty, he faces a minimum sentence of 15 years and a maximum sentence of life in prison. The federal system offers no parole, and his fate will be decided by a district court judge who considers all relevant sentencing guidelines and statutory factors.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department initiative that seeks to reduce violent crime and gun violence across the nation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Frank Dahl is prosecuting this case with unwavering determination.
Remember, an indictment is merely an allegation, and Starling is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
