Jeffrey R. Beard, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Kentucky 2021

Bowling Green, KY – Taylor County, Kentucky native Jeffrey R. Beard, 62, has been handed a 57-month federal prison sentence, followed by a three-year term of supervised release, for his illegal possession of two firearms in Campbellsville. This stern penalty comes after Beard’s conviction as a felon in possession of a firearm, marking his latest brush with the law.

U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky, Special Agent in Charge R. Shawn Morrow of the ATF Louisville Field Division, and Sheriff Allen Newton of the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office jointly announced the sentence. The court documents reveal that on March 18, 2021, Beard, a man with a lengthy criminal history, was found in possession of a New England Firearms 12-gauge shotgun, a Winchester 20-gauge shotgun, and a Marlin .22 caliber rifle.

Beard’s criminal past is marked by numerous convictions. In Green Circuit Court on July 13, 2016, he was convicted of possessing a firearm as a felon. The same year, Taylor Circuit Court saw him sentenced for first-degree wanton endangerment. His transgressions date back to April 6, 2004, where the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky found him guilty on multiple counts, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a machine gun, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

The ATF Bowling Green Field Office and the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation that led to Beard’s conviction. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark J. Yurchisin II, of the U.S. Attorney’s Bowling Green Branch Office, was responsible for prosecuting the case with determination.

Jeffrey R. Beard’s latest sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who repeatedly flout firearms laws and pose a threat to public safety.
