Isael Rodriguez, Gun Trafficking, Massachusetts 2024

A Lowell man has been sent packing to prison for his role in a gun trafficking scheme that put guns on the streets of Massachusetts.

Isael Rodriguez, 29, was sentenced to 18 months in prison and three years of supervised release for his crimes. This is a serious case of gun trafficking that puts our communities at risk.

According to the Department of Justice, in January 2021 and June 2021, Rodriguez purchased a dozen Glock pistols from a licensed dealer for $500 each. But here’s the kicker – he falsely claimed he was buying them for himself. Instead, he resold the firearms for profit to individuals in Massachusetts.

This is a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of our citizens. Rodriguez is not a licensed importer, manufacturer, or dealer, and Glock firearms are only allowed to be sold to active law enforcement officers.

The investigation into Rodriguez’s activities was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the Boston Police Department, the Lowell Police Department, and the Brookline and Brockton Police Departments.

Assistant U.S. Attorney John Dawley of the Organized Crime & Gang Unit prosecuted the case, which is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative. This program has been proven to reduce violent crime by targeting the most violent offenders and working with local prevention and reentry programs.

Rodriguez pleaded guilty to one count of dealing in firearms without a license and one count of making false statements to acquire firearms from a licensed dealer in January 2024. His sentencing is a reminder that those who engage in gun trafficking will face consequences.
