Orlando, Florida – In a gritty courtroom drama, Pedro Lucas-Cruz (31), a Mexican national, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for illegal reentry by a deported alien. The sentence handed down by U.S. District Judge Gregory A. Presnell came after Lucas-Cruz pled guilty on June 30, 2025.
Lucas-Cruz’s criminal saga began with a previous conviction for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and felony battery. He was deported from the United States on September 21, 2017. However, he returned to the country and was convicted of illegal reentry by a deported alien on March 11, 2021. Lucas-Cruz faced further expulsion on February 4, 2022.
But his criminal activities didn’t end there. After being removed from the United States once more, Lucas-Cruz managed to sneak back into the country and was apprehended in the Middle District of Florida on January 6, 2025.
The investigation was spearheaded by Homeland Security Investigations, and the prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick M. Flanigan. This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who defy the law and attempt to reenter the United States after deportation.
This severe sentence underscores the government’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws and protecting the public from individuals with a history of violent crime.
Lucas-Cruz’s 30-month imprisonment is an example of the justice system holding those who break the law accountable for their actions, no matter how many times they attempt to evade it.
