Lucas Russell Vanwoert, Child Pornography, Animal Crushing, Ohio 2023

Lucas Russell Vanwoert, 27, of Celina, Ohio, will spend the next eight years and three months behind bars for creating and distributing animal crush videos and possessing and transporting child pornography. U.S. District Judge James R. Knepp, II handed down the sentence in a Toledo courtroom.

Vanwoert created an animal crush video in 2022, with the intent to distribute, according to court documents. The disturbing footage depicted the intentional crushing, burning, drowning, suffocation, impalement, or otherwise subjecting of a living non-human mammal to serious bodily injury.

A search warrant executed at Vanwoert’s residence in Celina uncovered several electronic devices containing videos of child pornography, which involved prepubescent children, as well as animal crush videos. Authorities also seized three severely emaciated dogs that Vanwoert was abusing, and one recently deceased dog in the backyard of the residence.

At least one of Vanwoert’s dogs was used to create the animal crush videos, a heinous act of cruelty that has left many in the community outraged. The case has sparked concerns about animal welfare and the need for stricter laws to protect animals from abuse.

Homeland Security Investigations Agent Jason Guyton was the lead investigator in the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Sara Al-Sorghali and Michelle M. Baeppler. The sentencing of Vanwoert is a testament to the efforts of law enforcement and prosecutors in bringing perpetrators of animal cruelty to justice.

Vanwoert’s sentence includes 15 years of supervised release, registration as a sex offender, and a lifetime ban on owning or possessing a pet. The sentence is a stark reminder of the severity of the crimes committed by Vanwoert and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.

The case serves as a warning to others who may be involved in animal cruelty and child exploitation. It is a reminder that law enforcement is committed to protecting the vulnerable and bringing perpetrators to justice.
