Luis Edison Capellan-Ortiz, 49, Sentenced for Illegally Re-entering US

Rutland, Vermont — In a shocking turn of events, Luis Edison Capellan-Ortiz, a 49-year-old Dominican man, has been sentenced to time served for illegally re-entering the United States after being previously removed by immigration officials.

According to court records, Capellan-Ortiz unlawfully entered the country by walking across the United States-Canada border on October 20, 2024, in the area of Jay, Vermont. United States Border Patrol agents encountered and arrested him shortly after his arrival.
