Arizona Man Sentenced to 18 Months in Prison for Marijuana Conspiracy
Luis Fernando Enciso-Ulloa, 58, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for one count of conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute marijuana. The sentence was handed down by United States Chief District Judge Michael J. Reagan in the Southern District of Illinois.
According to court testimony, Enciso-Ulloa packaged and shipped four packages of marijuana weighing 22 pounds each from Nogales, Arizona to Belleville, Illinois, in 2014 and 2015. He also agreed to help find a buyer for approximately 13 pounds of marijuana during the same time period.
Enciso-Ulloa was charged in February 2016 and pled guilty in January 2017. This was his seventh drug conviction.
Chief Judge Reagan indicated that the sentence was designed to punish Enciso-Ulloa, promote respect for the law, and deter the public from committing drug crimes. The sentence also includes three years of supervised release, a $300 fine, and a $100 special assessment fee.
The evidence in support of this prosecution was obtained through an investigation conducted under the auspices of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF). The OCDETF initiative brings together federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to identify, target, and dismantle large national and international drug trafficking organizations.
Agencies participating in this case include the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigations, the Illinois State Police, and the Fontana, California Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Monica A. Stump.
