Jorge Delgado-Macias, Possessing Firearms as an Illegal Alien and Aggravated Identity Theft, Florida 2018

Jorge Delgado-Macias (44, Lutz) has pleaded guilty to possessing firearms as an illegal alien and committing aggravated identity theft, according to federal court records. The Tampa-area man now faces up to 10 years in federal prison for the weapons charge, plus a mandatory consecutive two-year sentence for stealing another man’s identity.

On October 17, 2018, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies raided Delgado-Macias’s home, executing a search warrant that led to the seizure of a 9mm pistol, a .40 caliber pistol, and multiple rounds of ammunition. Delgado-Macias admitted to law enforcement that the guns were his, confirmed he was a citizen of Mexico, and acknowledged he was unlawfully present in the United States.

During the same search, authorities found a Florida driver license issued under the name “JT, Jr.” Delgado-Macias admitted he had purchased a California birth certificate and Social Security number tied to the name “JT” years earlier for $500. He used those stolen credentials to obtain the Florida license, further embedding himself in a false identity.

The investigation revealed a calculated effort to assume a new identity and remain armed while living in the U.S. illegally. Federal prosecutors stress that illegal aliens are strictly barred from firearm possession, and the added charge of aggravated identity theft triggers mandatory minimum time behind bars—on top of any sentence for the underlying crime.

The case was jointly investigated by U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, with critical support from the Hillsborough County Sheriff Office. The probe peeled back layers of deception, exposing how Delgado-Macias sustained his presence in the U.S. through fraud and violence.

Assistant United States Attorney Jay L. Hoffer is prosecuting the case. Sentencing is pending, but Delgado-Macias now faces the full weight of federal law: a decade in prison for the guns, plus two non-negotiable years for the stolen identity—stacked, not served concurrently.
