Jason Pecoy, Conspiracy to Defraud the United States, Massachusetts 2024

BOSTON – Jason Pecoy, 44, of Wilbraham, Mass., was convicted on June 7, 2024, following a five-day jury trial, of conspiring to defraud the United States.

Pecoy, who served as project manager for a now-defunct luxury home building business in West Springfield, faces up to five years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 12, 2024.

Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy described Pecoy’s conviction as a reminder that ‘criminal actions have consequences,’ highlighting the elaborate scheme involving his father, Kent Pecoy, and Kevin Kennedy to defraud the government by concealing money and maintaining false books.

Pecoy was indicted alongside his father in December 2019 for conspiring to conceal cash payments for the construction of two luxury homes. The IRS emphasized that tax evasion impacts all Americans, noting Pecoy’s efforts to evade paying his fair share.

From 2009 through 2016, Kennedy conspired with Kent and Jason Pecoy to obstruct the Internal Revenue Service by concealing cash payments. Evidence revealed the trio created false ledgers, contracts, and accounting entries to hide these payments.

On Dec. 11, 2023, Kevin Kennedy was sentenced to 13 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for conspiracy to defraud the United States and making a false statement to a federally insured financial institution. Kent Pecoy pleaded guilty in May 2024 and is scheduled for sentencing on Aug. 20, 2024.
