Joseph Defilippi, 55, from Chicopee, Massachusetts, has been hit with a staggering charge after he pleaded guilty to attempting to entice a minor online. According to reports, the 55-year-old embarked on a disturbing campaign that spanned nearly seven months.
Starting in February 2018 and culminating on August 10, 2018, Defilippi exchanged messages with an undercover officer who was posing as a 13-year-old boy named Dylan. His sinister intent was clear: to persuade the child into meeting him for illegal sexual acts. On that fateful Friday morning, Defilippi traveled to Schuyler Flatts Park in Menands, New York, with one goal in mind – to meet his underage target.
The consequences of his actions are severe. Defilippi now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years imprisonment, capped at life behind bars. The financial penalty is equally daunting, with a fine as high as $250,000.00 hanging over his head. Supervised release follows, ensuring he remains under watch for at least five years, if not the rest of his life. Additionally, he must register as a sex offender, forever marking his name in this grim category.
Senior U.S. District Judge Thomas J. McAvoy will mete out justice on October 15, 2019, when Defilippi’s fate will be sealed. The investigation and prosecution were a joint effort by the FBI and the Town of Colonie Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rick Belliss and Joshua Rosenthal are leading the charge against him.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat online child exploitation.
