A Madera County woman has admitted to fueling the sexual abuse of children by trading and creating graphic material depicting minors in explicit acts. Ashley Maddox, 32, pleaded guilty today in federal court to one count of aiding and abetting the production of child pornography, a crime that carries a minimum 15-year prison sentence and up to 30 years behind bars.
Maddox appeared before U.S. District Judge Dale A. Drozd in Fresno, where she formally accepted responsibility for her role in a sordid digital exchange that spanned state lines. The case emerged during a Florida child pornography investigation targeting a man who had been sexually abusing a prepubescent minor. Federal investigators found that between November 2015 and April 2016, Maddox engaged in direct communications with the offender, requesting and receiving more than 20 videos and images of the child being abused.
Court documents reveal Maddox didn’t just consume the material—she contributed to it. She created and sent to the Florida man her own images and videos featuring another prepubescent minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Her actions weren’t passive; they were active participation in a network of child exploitation, encouraging and enabling continued abuse for the sake of perverse gratification.
The investigation was led by the Central California Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force, a multi-agency unit funded by federal and state governments. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents in Fresno and Fort Pierce, Florida, spearheaded the probe, with early support from the Madera County Sheriff’s Office. The ICAC task force specializes in tracking predators who exploit children online, including cases of child pornography, enticement, and trafficking.
Maddox now awaits sentencing, scheduled for August 26 in Fresno. She faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in federal prison, a maximum of 30 years, a $250,000 fine, and the possibility of lifetime supervised release. While the Federal Sentencing Guidelines will influence the final decision, the gravity of her crimes leaves little room for leniency under federal law.
This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department initiative launched in 2006 to combat the surge in child sexual exploitation. Led by U.S. Attorneys and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), the program unites federal, state, and local forces to track down predators and rescue victims. Trial Attorney Nadia Prinz and Assistant U.S. Attorney David Gappa are handling the prosecution.
