Burlington Resident Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement
Madison Carrig, 30, of Whitehall, New York, has been accused of embezzling funds from her employers.
Burlington, Vermont – Madison Carrig, a 30-year-old resident of Whitehall, New York, has pleaded guilty to two counts of access device fraud in the United States District Court in Burlington. According to the court, Carrig defrauded three car dealerships who employed her as office manager or controller.
Carrig was charged with the crimes on July 12, 2024, and pleaded guilty to the information at a court hearing today. The charging document stated that from September 2022 through November 27, 2023, Carrig misused company credit cards to purchase goods and services for her own use and benefit.
As office manager or controller, Carrig embezzled cash receipts received from customers of the dealerships. This case was investigated by the Vermont State Police.
Carrig faces up to ten years of imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence will be determined by the Court with guidance from the advisory United States Sentencing Guidelines and the statutory sentencing factors.
Carrig is represented by Natasha Sen, Esq. The prosecutor is Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Waples. Carrig was released on conditions pending sentencing, which is scheduled for January 3, 2025.
The United States Attorney’s Office announced the plea agreement today, stating that the charges against Carrig were related to her misuse of employer credit cards and cash receipts.
