DETROIT – Yousef Kosho, 44, of Madison Heights, Michigan, received an 84-month federal prison sentence for diverting over 25,000 opioid pills and engaging in money laundering. Kosho operated Great Health Pharmacy, where he was accused of running a scheme involving the unlawful distribution of prescription drugs.
The pharmacist would fill prescriptions for patient recruiters, including co-defendant Omar Madison, in exchange for cash payments. These prescriptions were often filled for patients who never visited the pharmacy. Kosho also sold entire stock bottles of controlled substances without medical prescriptions.
In addition to his prison sentence, Kosho was ordered to forfeit approximately $1.2 million in cash seized by federal agents. Co-defendant Madison received a 72-month sentence for drug trafficking conspiracy.
“This pharmacist was spreading poison instead of medicine,” said U.S. Attorney Dawn N. Ison. “Our office will continue to investigate and prosecute medical professionals who abuse their licenses.” DEA Special Agent in Charge Orville O. Greene echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the collaboration between law enforcement agencies.
The Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigations’ Acting Special Agent in Charge Charles Miller highlighted the importance of pharmacies in the community and the seriousness of Kosho’s conduct. Assistant United States Attorneys Alison Furtaw and Regina McCullough prosecuted the case as part of the Attorney General’s Opioid Fraud Abuse and Detection initiative.
