Maical Kvec, a Romanian National, has admitted to being in the United States illegally. U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld announced Kvec’s guilty plea on [undisclosed release date].
According to the indictment, Kvec, 24, was removed from the Chicago in 2019 after being convicted of a felony in 2017 in California and another charge in 2019 in Iowa. However, Kvec was found in February 2022 in Ohio County, West Virginia.
Kvec faces up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jarod J. Douglas is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the West Virginia State Police investigated.
U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. Mazzone presided over the case.
Maical Kvec’s guilty plea marks another instance of a foreign national attempting to reenter the United States after being previously removed. Kvec’s case serves as a reminder of the consequences of violating U.S. immigration laws.
