A San Diego couple’s two-year mail theft spree has finally come to an end. David Anthony Burge and Kyrsten Renee Bospflug pleaded guilty to stealing mail from post offices, apartment complexes and business complexes across San Diego County, raking in over $150,000.
According to their plea agreements, the husband-and-wife team worked together, using stolen USPS keys and counterfeit keys to access and steal mail from multiple locations, including the Bonita Post Office. They’d then alter stolen checks and impersonate victims at banks, using their personal info to open accounts and deposit the stolen cash.
Text messages revealed the couple’s brazen crimes, with Burge reporting to Bospflug that ‘mail was scarce’ but they had ‘2 amex’ and ‘let’s see what we can do with these checks.’ Burge and Bospflug understood ‘2 amex’ to mean two stolen American Express credit cards.
The couple’s scheme was exposed, and they now face the consequences of their actions. Their plea agreement details the extent of their crimes, and they’re expected to face significant time behind bars for their white-collar crimes.
