WASHINGTON — A Maine man has been cuffed for his brazen role in the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol breach, facing serious felony charges for his disruptive and dangerous actions.
Lincoln Deming, 44, of Kittery, Maine, is charged with civil disorder, entering a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct, infiltrating police lines, and more, all in the chaos that gripped Washington D.C. four years ago. The charges stem from his involvement in the Capitol’s violent takeover.
Deming was caught on camera attempting to tear down bike rack barricades around the Capitol, a move aimed at allowing rioters to storm closer to the building. He’s also accused of throwing an object toward law enforcement personnel and scaling Capitol stairs before sneaking into the Senate Wing Door. Inside, he spent nearly half an hour, breaking and entering locked doors and galleries.
Deming was arrested in Maine on May 11, 2024, and is set to face his charges today. The investigation is a joint effort by federal authorities, including the FBI’s Portland (Maine) and Washington Field Offices, the U.S. Capitol Police, and the Metropolitan Police Department.
Since Jan. 6, 2021, over 1,424 individuals have faced charges across nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach, with more than 500 charged with felonies for assaulting or impeding law enforcement. The case against Deming is part of an ongoing probe.
