18-Year-Old Albuquerque Man Pleads Guilty to Carjacking

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – In a shocking turn of events, Malachi Alan Crockett, an 18-year-old from Albuquerque, has pleaded guilty to three counts of carjacking and aiding and abetting, as well as one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

According to court documents, Crockett, along with two juvenile accomplices, committed three carjackings in Albuquerque on March 21, 2023. During each of the carjackings, Crockett was armed with a loaded pistol and used it to facilitate the crime.

Crockett faces imprisonment of up to 15 years for each carjacking count, as well as a consecutive term of up to life in prison for using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

The FBI Albuquerque Field Office, with assistance from the Albuquerque Police Department, led the investigation into Crockett’s crimes. Assistant United States Attorneys Matthew T. Nelson and Natasha Moghadam are prosecuting the case.

Crockett will remain in custody pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled. The court’s decision will be closely watched by law enforcement officials and the community at large.

Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, also weighed in, stating, ‘The FBI is dedicated to keeping our communities safe from threats like carjacking.’
