Armed Robberies Rock Connecticut: Three Men Pleaded Guilty to Heinous Crimes
Connecticut, once known for its picturesque coastline and charming towns, was recently shaken by a wave of armed robberies. Malcolm Haynes, a 26-year-old from New Haven, has pleaded guilty to his involvement in the heinous crimes. Alongside his accomplices Derrick White and Howard Bookert, Haynes was involved in the armed robberies of the Allingtown Post Office in West Haven and the Wells Fargo Bank in Hamden on April 21, 2016.
According to court documents, Haynes, White, and Bookert, along with an unidentified male, stormed the post office, with Haynes pointing a .22 caliber rifle at postal employees. The robbers fled with approximately $491 from the cash drawer. Later that same day, the group struck again at the Wells Fargo Bank, where Haynes pointed a rifle at employees while White removed $9,287 from teller drawers. The other male brandished what appeared to be a small black semi-automatic pistol.
The aftermath of the robberies saw White and Bookert apprehended in New Haven on April 21, 2016. Haynes, however, managed to evade capture until May 23, 2016. The trio has been detained since their arrests and is scheduled to be sentenced.
Each of the charges carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 25 years. The investigation into these crimes was a collaborative effort between the West Haven Police Department, Hamden Police Department, New Haven Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Anastasia E. King is prosecuting the case.
The case remains a reminder of the reality of crime in our communities. It highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the need for swift justice to deter such crimes.
As the trio awaits their sentencing, the people of Connecticut can take solace in the knowledge that justice is being served. The bravery of the postal employees and bank staff who withstood the robberies will not be forgotten.
