Malik Adoyi, Drug Trafficking, Pennsylvania 2021

SCRANTON – A Stroudsburg man is facing federal charges for his alleged involvement in a heroin and fentanyl trafficking ring in Monroe County, Pennsylvania.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Malik Adoyi, 24, was indicted by a federal grand jury on November 16, 2021, for five counts of distribution of heroin and fentanyl, one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin and fentanyl, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The indictment alleges that Adoyi was involved in the distribution of heroin and fentanyl in Monroe County between July 16 and November 10, 2021. The matter was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and its state and local law enforcement partners in Monroe County.

Assistant United States Attorney Jeffery St John is prosecuting the case, which is part of a district-wide initiative to combat the nationwide epidemic of heroin and fentanyl use and distribution. The case also falls under the Heroin Initiative, a coordinated effort among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who commit heroin-related offenses.

The maximum penalty under federal law for these offenses is 40 years imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the judge is required to consider and weigh a number of factors, including the nature, circumstances, and seriousness of the offense, the history and characteristics of the defendant, and the need to punish the defendant, protect the public, and provide for the defendant’s educational, vocational, and medical needs.

Indictments are only allegations, and all persons charged are presumed to be innocent until found guilty in court. A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
