Men Sentenced to Decades in Prison for Child Pornography
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – In a shocking case of child exploitation, two men from Jefferson County, Tennessee, have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms for producing child pornography.
Alan Malott, age 27, of Dandridge, Tennessee, was sentenced to serve 195 months in federal prison on August 4, 2022. His co-defendant, Christopher Thurman, age 25, was also from Dandridge, Tennessee, and was sentenced to 180 months in federal prison on August 5, 2022.
Malott and Thurman pleaded guilty to producing child pornography in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2251(a) and (e) as part of plea agreements filed with the court. Following their term of imprisonment, both men will be on supervised release for life.
According to documents filed in the case, Malott and Thurman admitted in 2019 that they filmed themselves raping a minor family member of Malott’s. They then sent the video of the rape to Malott’s prior boyfriend in Louisiana and to Thurman. The defendants also confessed to sexually abusing a horse and a dog.
The investigation into Malott and Thurman was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Kolman represented the United States in court.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood (PSC), a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. PSC marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
Malott and Thurman will be required to register with state sex offender registries and comply with special sex offender conditions during their supervised release. Their crimes are a stark reminder of the devastating impact of child exploitation and the importance of continued efforts to combat this heinous crime.
