Man Convicted of Possessing Child Pornography
Bangor, Maine – A Penobscot man has been found guilty of possessing child pornography, a federal crime that carries a 10-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine.
Kevin Lee Ross, 52, was convicted after a one-day jury trial in U.S. District Court. The investigation revealed that in July 2011, a search warrant was executed at Ross’s residence in Penobscot, where agents found a child pornography video playing on one of his computers.
A forensic examination of the computers seized from the residence revealed thousands of images and hundreds of videos of child pornography. Ross faced a lengthy sentence, but he agreed to forfeit the computers and will be sentenced after a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit. Ross’s conviction serves as a warning to those who engage in similar activities, and it demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement to protecting children from exploitation.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Ross’s sentencing will be determined after a presentence investigation report is completed. In the meantime, he will remain free on bail.
The case highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies in investigating and prosecuting crimes that involve the exploitation of children. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit worked together to bring Ross to justice, and their efforts are to be commended.
