Man Pleads Guilty to Threatening to Kill the President
Orlando, FL – In a shocking turn of events, Jason Lynn Gay, a 40-year-old man from Orlando, Florida, has pleaded guilty to making threats against the President of the United States. According to the United States Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III, Gay faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison.
The charges stem from a letter Gay mailed to the United States Courthouse in Orlando on May 29, 2013. In the letter, Gay threatened to assault and murder an FBI agent and take the life of and inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States of America. He also threatened to “blow up” the federal courthouse.
Gay’s threats were received by a clerk at the courthouse on May 31, 2013, and were subsequently read. On June 3, 2013, and again on January 16, 2014, federal agents interviewed Gay regarding the threats he made in the letter. In these interviews, Gay acknowledged writing the letter and reaffirmed his desire to kill the President.
The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew C. Searle. Gay’s sentencing date has not yet been set.
“This case is a stark reminder of the seriousness of threatening the President,” said United States Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III. “We take all threats against the President very seriously and will prosecute those who make such threats to the fullest extent of the law.”
Gay’s guilty plea is a significant development in the case, and it is likely that he will face a significant sentence for his crimes. The case serves as a warning to those who would threaten the President or other public officials: you will be held accountable for your actions.
The United States Secret Service has been praised for their work in investigating this case and bringing Gay to justice. Their efforts have helped to ensure the safety and security of the President and the American people.
In a statement, Assistant United States Attorney Andrew C. Searle said, “We are pleased that Jason Lynn Gay has pleaded guilty to making threats against the President. This case is a reminder that we will not tolerate threats against the President or other public officials.”
Gay’s guilty plea is a significant victory for the United States Attorney’s Office and the United States Secret Service. It is a reminder that those who make threats against the President or other public officials will be held accountable for their actions.
