Man Sentenced for Sexually Assaulting Navajo Child
A 55-year-old Kirtland man, Wilson Harry, Jr., was sentenced to 63 months in prison followed by ten years of supervised release for his abusive sexual contact conviction.
According to the court documents, Harry is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation and will be required to register as a sex offender after he completes his prison sentence.
The crime occurred during the summer of 2009 in Shiprock, N.M., within the Navajo Indian Reservation, where Harry touched the genitals of a Navajo child under the age of 16.
Harry pleaded guilty on August 6, 2012, to the crime, which was investigated by the Farmington office of the FBI and the Shiprock Division of the Navajo Nation Department of Public Safety.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob A. Wishard, who successfully secured a conviction for Harry’s heinous crime.
Harry has been in federal custody since his arrest on January 9, 2012, and will now face the consequences of his actions.
As part of his sentence, Harry will be required to register as a sex offender, a designation that will follow him for the rest of his life.
