A New York Man Sentenced to 54 Months in Federal Prison for Obtaining and Selling Prescription Narcotics
Donald McCann, a 32-year-old resident of Bedford Hills, N.Y., has been sentenced to 54 months in federal prison for his involvement in a prescription narcotics trafficking ring.
McCann was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute oxycodone, a highly addictive opioid prescription medication. The investigation, led by the DEA Tactical Diversion Squad, revealed that McCann had been purchasing prescription paper and obtaining identifying information to forge prescriptions from at least five doctors.
Between December 2011 and October 2013, McCann fraudulently obtained over 16,000 oxycodone 30MG pills. He and co-conspirator Jesse Kaplan would then travel to pharmacies together, using multiple aliases and fraudulent prescriptions to obtain the medication.
McCann’s bond was revoked in August 2015, after he was arrested in the Bronx for purchasing heroin. His criminal history includes multiple arrests in Connecticut and New York for obtaining or attempting to obtain narcotics using fraudulent prescriptions.
McCann’s co-conspirator, Jesse Kaplan, was sentenced to 57 months in prison in November 2014. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Vanessa Richards, with the support of the DEA Tactical Diversion Squad and local police departments.
The sentencing of Donald McCann serves as a reminder of the severity of prescription narcotics trafficking and the importance of continued efforts to combat this growing public health concern.
