Manchester Man Jailed 5 Years for Fentanyl Trafficking

Francis Harrington, 39, of Manchester, has been sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute, according to Acting United States Attorney John J. Farley.

Harrington was arrested on August 22, 2019, after a Manchester police officer found a large bulge in the waistband of his pants, containing a bag with 198 grams of fentanyl. The officer had responded to a report of two males passed out in a parked vehicle. When asked about the object, Harrington replied "drugs."

The case is part of Operation Synthetic Opioid Surge (S.O.S.), a program announced in July 2018 by Attorney General Jeff Sessions to combat the large number of overdoses and deaths associated with fentanyl and other synthetic opioids.

Harrington previously pleaded guilty on May 18, 2021. "Drug dealers have been flooding our community with large amounts of fentanyl and the results have been tragic and deadly," said Acting U.S. Attorney Farley. "We continue to work closely with the Manchester Police Department to identify and prosecute the fentanyl dealers who are jeopardizing public safety in the Queen City."

The Manchester Police Department investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Joachim H. Barth prosecuted it. This case is one of many efforts by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Hampshire to focus on prosecuting synthetic opioid trafficking cases arising in Hillsborough County, which includes Manchester and Nashua.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office is working closely with local law enforcement to identify and prosecute fentanyl dealers who are putting the community at risk. This case is a prime example of the devastating impact of fentanyl trafficking and the importance of holding those responsible accountable.

As the opioid crisis continues to plague New Hampshire, it is essential that we continue to work together to combat the issue. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to prioritize the prosecution of fentanyl dealers and work with local law enforcement to keep our communities safe.
