Manhattan’s streets are no safer as AGARI REYES-SILLERO, a 34-year-old Mexican national, was nabbed for attempting to peddle a staggering 50,000 fentanyl pills worth $400,000. The deadly batch was seized by the DEA, NYPD, and New York State Police during a daring sting operation.
According to U.S. Attorney Damian Williams, REYES-SILLERO’s colorful cache of death was intercepted thanks to relentless teamwork. ‘The pills were designed to look innocent, bright and colorful,’ said Williams, ‘but they hide one of the deadliest substances on Earth.’
DEA Special Agent-in-Charge Frank A. Tarentino III echoed Williams’ sentiments. ‘Fentanyl is flooding our city in deadly doses,’ he warned. ‘With today’s arrest, 30,000 lethal doses have been removed from circulation, saving countless lives.’
NYPD Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell vowed to keep Manhattan free of such poison. ‘We will not waver in our commitment to rid New York of fentanyl,’ she said. ‘Those who sell this deadly poison on our streets for profit will be held accountable.’
Acting Superintendent Steven A. Nigrelli of the New York State Police praised the collaborative efforts. ‘Each arrest and seizure is saving lives and reducing crime associated with illegal drug operations,’ he stated.
REYES-SILLERO now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, with a maximum term of life. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Patrick R. Moroney and Andrew W. Jones are handling the prosecution.
