SOUTH BEND – A Mexican national has been sentenced to prison time for reentry of a removed alien in South Bend, Indiana. Manuel De Jesus Tinoco-Calderon, 36, was handed a sentence of time served.
Tinoco-Calderon was previously removed from the United States in September of 2007. According to documents in the case, he was brought to the United States illegally and had previously been removed.
However, Tinoco-Calderon re-entered the United States, violating federal law. He was arrested and charged with felony re-entry of a removed alien.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement with assistance from the Notre Dame Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Luke N. Reilander.
United States Attorney Adam L. Mildred announced the sentencing, stating that Tinoco-Calderon would serve no additional time for his crime.
Tinoco-Calderon has been in custody since August 15, 2025, and will serve the remainder of his sentence. The exact length of his sentence was not disclosed.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of enforcing immigration laws and holding individuals accountable for violating them.
