Manuel Delgado, Transportation of a Minor Across State Lines for Criminal Sexual Activity, Virginia 2024

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Manuel Delgado, a 26-year-old man from Hyattsville, Maryland, was handed a decade behind bars today after being convicted of engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl at her school bus stop.

Delgado, who pleaded guilty to transportation of a minor across state lines for criminal sexual activity on March 16, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and an additional 20 years of supervised release. His despicable actions began when he met the victim through family when she was just 11 years old.

According to court documents, Delgado initiated a romantic relationship with the minor that spanned over a year. In June 2016, he deceitfully claimed his daughter was sick and used a car service to travel from Maryland to Virginia, picking up the girl at her school bus stop. He then brought her back to his Maryland residence and engaged in sexual acts.

After the young victim courageously disclosed the abuse to her mother, law enforcement became involved. Despite this, Delgado continued to communicate with the victim, urging her not to report the crime to authorities.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Maureen Cain, who successfully argued for justice on behalf of the victim. Senior U.S. District Judge James C. Cacheris announced the sentence after sentencing, joined by officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, the FBI, Prince George’s County Police, and Fairfax County Police.
