Jon Frank, Embezzlement, Virginia 2024

Alexandria, Va. – A shocking revelation in the Virginia criminal landscape: Jon Frank, 48, from Nokesville, has pleaded guilty to embezzling an astonishing $19.3 million from his employer, a Reston-based IT company.

According to court documents, Frank served as the controller at the firm and exploited this position to siphon funds from the company’s bank account into his personal accounts. His deceitful scheme involved creating falsified documents that portrayed the money transfers as legitimate reimbursements for health insurance plan administration services to another company.

Frank, who has been employed with the IT company since 2007 until January 2017, used the embezzled funds to purchase luxury vehicles and real estate. His fraudulent activities went undetected for years due to his manipulation of financial records.

The plea agreement states that Frank faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison when sentenced on September 8th. However, actual sentences for federal crimes are usually less severe, with the ultimate sentence to be determined by a federal district court judge considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.

The announcement was made following the acceptance of Frank’s plea by U.S. District Judge Leonie M. Brinkema, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jack Hanly handling the prosecution. Dana J. Boente, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Andrew W. Vale, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office, were also present at the announcement.
