Maquire Malo Levi, Carjacking, Alaska 2021

In a disturbing case of carjacking, Maquire Malo Levi, 24, was sentenced to seven years in federal prison for stealing a vehicle with a minor inside.

The crime occurred in the Dimond Center parking lot in November 2019, when Levi spotted a running vehicle and got into the driver’s seat. The victim, a 16-year-old boy, was in the back seat and punched Levi in an attempt to stop him. Levi retaliated by elbowing the boy in the face and speeding off.

Levi abandoned the car, but his DNA was later found on the steering wheel and shifter. The FBI and Anchorage Police Department investigated the case.

Levi was indicted on federal carjacking charges in January 2021. The U.S. Attorney’s office praised the sentence, stating that it will make Alaska safer and deter future similar conduct.

Special Agent in Charge Antony Jung of the FBI Anchorage Field Office said, ‘This individual’s complete disregard for public safety and senseless violence committed against innocent bystanders, is patently unacceptable.’

Levi’s sentence is the result of a joint investigation by the FBI and Anchorage Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Ivers and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Kayla Doyle prosecuted the case.
